On 28 June, 2015 a Mumbai local train overshot the Platform at Churchgate station, one of the busiest stations on Indian Railways. The harrowing moment was captured by the CCTV cameras installed at the station. Initial reports say five people were injured - including the motorman.
The incident happened on a Virar - Churchgate fast local.
The motorman is being investigated as he claimed that the brakes of the local train had failed. Railway officials however claim that it is almost impossible for the brakes to fail on a Mumbai local.
Churchgate station, where the accident happened is the terminal station on the Western line of the Indian Railways. It carries an estimated 3.5 million passengers each day - making it one of the busiest mass transit systems in the world.
